Styles of Dance
LYRICAL
Combining jazz and ballet techniques, lyrical dance uses movement to interpret music and express emotion. A passionate and emotional style of dance, its roots are based in a fusion of ballet with rock, folk, pop and alternative music. With a strong technical basis, this is a perfect class for the dancer who is seeking the benefits of classic dance technique, but with a more contemporary flavor. (1-Hour Class)
BALLET
Our ballet program is designed to provide students with the fundamentals of correct classical ballet technique. Proper alignment of the body, feet, and arms will be covered as well as flexibility and core strengthening exercises. Classes include traditional barre work, center floor, and across the floor combinations. (1-Hour Class)
POINTE
Entrance into this class is determined by the Instructor and is based on the student’s individual strength and technical ability. Students must have a minimum of three years ballet training to be considered for Pointe.
TAP
Our tap classes focus on the fundamentals, such as increasing speed, improving clarity, and musicality. Rhythm and sound are explored through drills, exercises, and combinations. A fun environment where noise is encouraged! (1-Hour Class)
JAZZ
Jazz classes focus on all elements of the jazz discipline including positions, turns, jumps, and leaps. Students will also learn center and locomotor progressions as well as proper stretching techniques to enhance strength and flexibility. Classes explode with energy and create a space for dancers to explore their individual styles. (1-Hour Class)
HIP HOP
The Hip Hop style of dance has become increasingly popular with boys and girls, incorporating fast footwork, freestyle dance and free flowing funky movement. This style is based mainly on street dance styles that have evolved as a part of the hip hop culture. Our hip hop classes are danced to a wide variety of past and present hip hop and R&B music, with all music and choreography being age-appropriate. (45-Minute and 1-Hour Classes)
MOMMY & ME
Early childhood music and movement program
MODERN
This style of dance focuses on a dancer’s own interpretation instead of structured steps. Dancers are encouraged to use their emotions and moods along with body movement to express abstract ideas.
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including ballet, jazz, lyrical and modern. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation while focusing on floor work using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This genre of dance can be performed to many different styles of music.
ACRO
Acro is short for acrobatics, which is a dance style that fuses dance moves with tumbling skills. Classes will help students to develop agility and muscle control along with balance and grace. The students will be consistently challenged in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. (45-Minute Class)
CREATIVE MOVEMENT
Our creative movement class is a perfect sampling of dance for your active pre-schooler who is ready to jump in with two feet. This is a class that allows students to experience both the gentle, imaginative and classical world of ballet as well as the fast-paced, rhythmical world of tap. Basic mat tumbling will also be explored. The use of props, costumes and exciting music will also enhance their introduction into the world of dance. (45-Minute Class)
COMBINATION
Combination classes consist of beginner tap steps and rhythms, an introduction to the ballet barre along with basic ballet terms and positions, as well as an energetic leap into the world of jazz! We even add a little tumbling just for fun. (45-Minute and 1-Hour Classes)
MUSICAL THEATER
Incorporates dance, voice, acting and the use of props to help make a well rounded performer. This is a great class for students who are looking to gain elements needed to perform roles in their schools or community theater productions. This class is a wonderful learning and confidence building experience. (1-Hour Class)
